The tooth fairy visits while the child sleeps, taking the tooth and exchanging it with a coin, a note or receipt, or a few dollars. My parents acted disappointed along with me. I was devastated that the tooth fairy wouldn’t be able to come. When I was seven years old, I accidentally swallowed a loose tooth during a baseball game. Perhaps having a father as a dentist will do that. The tooth fairy remains one of my most vivid memories from childhood.
